Have You Heard About the Amazing Sensory Sundays at HistoryMiami Museum?
As people who work with amazing kids on the autism spectrum every day, we get so excited when we discover awesome activities in Miami that are perfect for our families! We recently learned about the Sensory Sundays program at HistoryMiami Museum, and we had to share.
You know how regular museum visits can sometimes be a bit much for our kids? Well, the wonderful people at HistoryMiami Museum totally get it. They’ve created special Sunday events where our families can enjoy everything the museum has to offer without worrying about crowds or overwhelming sensory experiences.
The Best Part? Everything They Offer!
We absolutely love what they’ve done with the space. They have these amazing tours through their Tropical Dreams exhibit (which is all about South Florida’s history!), where kids can actually handle different materials and really connect with the stories being told. There’s also this fantastic creative area where kids can build and make things – perfect for working on those fine motor skills we’re always focusing on in therapy!
Our favorite feature might be their sensory room. As we all know, sometimes our kids need a quiet moment to reset, and this room is perfect for that. They’ve thought of everything – soft lights, comfy places to sit, and calming activities. Plus, the staff is trained to help our families, which makes such a difference!

- Try new things in a super supportive environment
- Have fun with their families without stress
- Meet other kids and make friends
Pro Tips from Someone Who Gets It
Want to make the most of your visit? Here’s what we tell the families we work with:
- Sign up early! (These events fill up super fast)
- Get there a little before it starts – it helps with transitions
- Don’t forget to pack your kid’s favorite comfort items
- Remember it’s 100% okay to use the sensory room whenever needed
Other Great Places to Try in Miami
Since we’re always looking for more fun activities, here are some other places we love recommending to our families:
The Frost Science Museum has this awesome “Just for Me” program every month. The Miami Seaquarium does special morning sessions that are perfect for our kids. And if your little one enjoys theater, check out the sensory-friendly shows at Actors’ Playhouse!
