Handprint Flowers: Autism Behavior Sensory Craft

Handprint flowers are a wonderful way to engage children in a creative and sensory experience. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver, this craft provides an opportunity for self-expression, fine motor skill development, and sensory exploration. Plus, it’s a great way to celebrate spring or brighten up any day!

Benefits of Handprint Flowers

  • Sensory Exploration: The tactile experience of creating handprints and gluing them onto paper engages the senses. Children can feel the texture of the paper and explore different materials.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Cutting out handprints, holding the glue, and positioning the pieces all contribute to fine motor skill development.
  • Self-Expression: Handprint flowers allow children to express themselves artistically. They can choose colors, arrange the handprints, and decorate their flowers as they wish.

Materials Needed

  • Scissors (with adult supervision)
  • Glue
  • Construction paper in desired colors (or use paint to make handprints directly on paper)
  • Stems: You can use pipe cleaners, Popsicle sticks, or even paint stems directly onto the paper.
  • Flower pot: Create one using paper or paint.

Instructions

  • Trace your hand onto the paper and cut out the handprint.
  • Glue the stem (pipe cleaner, Popsicle stick, or painted stem) onto the construction paper.
  • Attach the flower pot (made from paper or painted) just above the stem. This will complete the visual representation of your flower.
  • Glue the handprints onto the paper, arranging them above the stem. You can overlap them slightly to create a fuller effect.
  • Decorate your handprint flowers. Use markers, stickers, sequins, or any other embellishments you like.

Handprint flowers are more than just a craft—they’re a way to connect, create, and explore your fine motor skills. Whether you’re making them at home, in a classroom, or as part of ABA therapy, enjoy the process and celebrate the uniqueness of each handprint flower.
