frequently asked questions

At our Naperville, Illinois location, Cultivate Behavioral Health & Education provides comprehensive Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental delays. Our services are designed to promote measurable improvements in communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and independent living skills.

Each child receives a fully individualized treatment plan developed and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Therapy is delivered in a structured clinic environment that supports focused learning while also incorporating naturalistic teaching opportunities to strengthen real-world application. In addition to direct one-on-one ABA therapy, we provide caregiver training to ensure families are equipped to reinforce progress at home and in community settings. Our approach combines evidence-based clinical practice with clear, outcome-oriented goals.

Families in Naperville choose Cultivate because of our emphasis on clinical oversight, structured programming, and data-driven decision-making. We do not use generic treatment models; every program is carefully designed based on assessment results and continuously refined through objective measurement.

Cultivate is accredited by the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE) and is an active member of the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP), reflecting our commitment to ethical standards and clinical quality. Our BCBAs maintain intentional caseload sizes to ensure hands-on supervision, frequent progress review, and timely program adjustments. The result is ABA therapy that is both highly individualized and consistently aligned with measurable developmental outcomes.

The recommended frequency of ABA therapy is determined following a comprehensive assessment conducted by a BCBA. During this process, we evaluate communication skills, social functioning, adaptive behaviors, learning readiness, and any behaviors that may interfere with development.

Based on clinical findings, we develop a treatment intensity that supports steady progress while remaining appropriate for your child’s needs. Some children benefit from focused part-time programming, while others require comprehensive services to address foundational skill deficits. Our goal is always to provide the level of support necessary to produce meaningful, long-term progress.

At our Naperville clinic, ABA services are delivered by highly qualified professionals who meet both national and state standards. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) hold master’s degrees in behavior analysis or related fields, have passed the national certification examination administered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), and are licensed in Illinois as Licensed Behavior Analysts (LBAs). They are responsible for assessment, treatment planning, supervision, and ongoing data analysis.

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) provide direct one-on-one therapy under BCBA supervision. They complete formal training requirements, pass a competency evaluation, and maintain certification through ongoing supervision and professional development. This layered supervision model ensures that therapy is safe, ethical, and delivered with consistency.

Yes. Parent and caregiver collaboration is an essential component of our ABA therapy program in Naperville. While daily therapy sessions are conducted one-on-one between your child and their Registered Behavior Technician, caregivers participate in structured parent training sessions led by the BCBA.

These meetings focus on reviewing data, modeling intervention strategies, and coaching caregivers on how to reinforce skills at home. This collaborative process supports generalization across settings and increases the likelihood that newly acquired skills are maintained over time.

ABA therapy may be appropriate if your child demonstrates challenges in social communication, peer interaction, adaptive daily living skills, emotional regulation, or if they engage in behaviors that interfere with learning. Many families seek services following an autism diagnosis, but others pursue an evaluation after noticing developmental delays or skill gaps.

Our Naperville team conducts thorough assessments to determine whether ABA therapy is clinically indicated and to identify the level of support that would be most beneficial. We prioritize transparency and clear communication when discussing recommendations with families.

ABA therapy sessions at our Naperville location are structured, engaging, and goal-focused. Sessions often begin with skill acquisition targets that may involve communication training, social skill development, or adaptive skill instruction. Instruction is individualized and incorporates positive reinforcement to maintain motivation and engagement.

As children progress, sessions may incorporate peer interaction opportunities and more complex skill-building activities to support generalization and independence. Every activity is aligned with the child’s treatment plan and supported by continuous data collection to ensure measurable progress.

Progress is tracked through systematic data collection during every therapy session. RBTs record detailed information regarding skill acquisition, prompt levels, behavioral frequency, and goal mastery. This data is reviewed frequently by the supervising BCBA to evaluate effectiveness and determine whether program adjustments are needed.

This ongoing analysis allows us to make timely modifications to ensure therapy remains productive and aligned with developmental milestones. Families receive regular updates and structured progress reviews to maintain transparency and shared understanding.

Absolutely. We provide ABA therapy for children across all levels of communication ability, including those who are nonverbal. Treatment may include alternative communication methods such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), sign language, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices.

We also collaborate with speech-language pathologists to ensure consistency in communication goals and implementation strategies. Our objective is to help every child develop functional communication that supports independence and social connection.

We do not provide formal autism diagnostic evaluations at our Naperville clinic. However, we offer developmental screening tools such as the M-CHAT for toddlers and the CAST for school-aged children to help identify potential concerns. If a full diagnostic evaluation is recommended, we connect families with trusted diagnostician partners who provide convenient virtual autism evaluations.
