Do You Suspect Your Child Might Have Autism?
We're Here to Help.

If you’ve noticed differences in how your child communicates, interacts, or plays, getting clarity early can make all the difference. At Cultivate, we help families take those first important steps by offering trusted autism screenings, such as the M-CHAT-R (for toddlers) and the CAST (for older children).

These screenings can provide valuable insight and help determine whether pursuing a formal diagnostic evaluation is the next step. Our team can help directly connect you to our diagnostic partners to ensure families have clear pathways to the support they need.

frequently asked questions

In-home Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a form of evidence-based behavioral therapy delivered directly in your child’s home environment. During in-home ABA therapy, a trained Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) works one-on-one with your child under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

Therapy focuses on teaching functional, real-life skills within the routines your child experiences every day—such as communication, following directions, self-help skills, and behavior regulation. Because therapy takes place at home, strategies can be practiced immediately in natural situations, making learning more meaningful and effective.

In-home ABA therapy may be a good fit for children who benefit from learning in familiar settings or who struggle with transitions to clinic environments. It is often recommended when therapy goals involve daily routines, such as dressing, mealtime behaviors, sleep routines, or safety skills.

A BCBA will complete a comprehensive assessment to determine whether in-home ABA therapy is the most appropriate setting based on your child’s needs, learning style, and family dynamics. Some families also use a combination of in-home and clinic-based services to support skill development across environments.

One of the primary benefits of in-home ABA therapy is the ability to work on skills in real-world situations as they naturally occur. Teaching within the home helps children generalize skills more quickly and apply them where they are needed most.

In-home services also allow for increased caregiver involvement, flexible scheduling, and direct coaching during everyday routines. This approach supports consistency, builds caregiver confidence, and often leads to faster skill carryover outside of therapy sessions.

In-home ABA therapy is designed to fit within your family’s daily schedule rather than disrupt it. Sessions are scheduled at times that work best for your household, and therapy activities are often embedded into routines your child already follows.

For example, goals may be addressed during playtime, meals, transitions, or bedtime routines. This natural integration helps therapy feel more manageable while supporting meaningful, functional learning.

In-home ABA therapy commonly focuses on functional skills that occur in everyday life. These may include communication skills, emotional regulation, daily living tasks (such as dressing or hygiene), behavior reduction, safety skills, and social interaction with family members.

Because therapy occurs in the home, goals can be tailored to your child’s specific environment and routines, allowing for highly individualized and practical treatment plans.

Yes, caregiver involvement is strongly encouraged during in-home ABA therapy. Parents and caregivers often participate by observing sessions, practicing strategies, and receiving real-time coaching from the therapy team.

This collaboration helps ensure consistency across environments and empowers families with the tools they need to support progress when therapists are not present.

Therapists are trained to work within busy home environments and adapt sessions as needed. The BCBA and therapy team will collaborate with your family to identify a comfortable space for therapy and develop strategies to manage distractions.

When siblings are present, therapists may incorporate appropriate boundaries or even include siblings in certain activities when beneficial. The goal is to maintain a productive session while respecting your family’s natural dynamics.

Safety and professionalism are top priorities during in-home ABA therapy. All clinicians follow strict ethical guidelines, professional boundaries, and safety protocols while working in family homes.

Your therapy team will review expectations related to safety, confidentiality, and session structure to ensure families feel comfortable and supported throughout services.

Progress during in-home ABA therapy is measured through ongoing data collection during every session. Therapists track progress toward individualized goals, and BCBAs regularly review this data to make data-driven treatment decisions.

Families receive regular updates, progress reviews, and opportunities to ask questions, ensuring transparency and collaboration throughout the therapy process.

ABA therapy is designed to be flexible and responsive to your child’s progress. If in-home ABA therapy is not producing the expected results or no longer feels like the best fit, your BCBA will review data, observe sessions, and collaborate with your family to make adjustments.

Changes may include modifying goals, adjusting teaching strategies, increasing parent involvement, or transitioning to a different service setting such as clinic-based therapy. Ongoing assessment and open communication ensure therapy continues to meet your child’s evolving needs and supports meaningful progress.
